Service Description

In accordance with Law n° 025/2024 of 16/02/2024 governing biosafety​​​​​​​, certain activities related to living modified organisms (LMOs) require a permit to ensure the safety of human health, the environment, and biodiversity. The law outlines the following activities that are subject to permit application:

  1. Contained use of a living modified organism related activities;

  2. Confined field trials of a living modified organism;

  3. Intentional introduction of a living modified organism into the environment;

  4. To place on the market a living modified organism for direct use as food, feed or for processing;

  5. To import, transit or export a living modified organism;

  6. To handle, package, label, transport or store a living modified organism

Application process and timing

Required Documents

To apply for a permit for biosafety-related activities, applicants must submit the following:

  1. Completed Application Forms (Forms related to the LMO activity, as indicated in Article 7 of the Biosafety Law and the Ministerial Order on the application process for LMO-related activities.

  2. Risk Assessment report

  3. Risk Management plan

  4. Additional Documents (As required by the biosafety authority, additional supporting documents may be requested)

  5. Submit the Application to  

Processing Time

The processing of the biosafety-related permit may take 30 to90 working days from the reception of the complete application, depending on the application type and activity (s).
