14th - 16th May 2013 - Rwanda hosts the Global Environment Facility Expended Constituency Workshop, an international workshop organized by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the largest public funder for projects to improve the global environment, especially projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants.

In a two-day training on modalities of implementation of LVEMPII (Lake Victoria Environment Management Project phase II) sub-projects organized by REMA through LVEMPII on 7th and 8th of May 2013, the residents in Ngoma district pledged to put forward Concerted efforts in achieving what they have been trained in, through managing and conserving the environment in the most sustainable manner.

Yesterday 1st May 2013 Rwanda as well as the rest of the world celebrated the International Labour Day. Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) staff also gathered together to celebrate this day and debate on this year’s theme which was "Let’s value work by providing the jobless with start-up capital support".
Speaking at the gathering, Dr. Rose Mukankomeje, director General of REMA called REMA staff to value their work and strive for their dignity by always accomplishing their duties and contributing to people’s living.

By December 2014, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) must be a past history in Rwanda. This is one of the recommendations of participants in the inception workshop of PCBs project organized by Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) this Tuesday 23rd April 2013. During the workshop REMA and the Energy Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) committed to join their efforts in order to eliminate PCB oils and PCB containing equipment in Rwanda.

REMA installs Early Warning and Disaster Preparedness Systems. |

Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) in collaboration with the Least Developed Countries Adaptation Fund (LDCF) is installing Early Warning and Disaster Preparedness Systems to support Rwanda Meteorological Agency provide real time weather forecasts and warnings.
“We have had bad experience of losing our people’s lives due to unexpected flood, landslides, heavy rain, among others. So, Early Warning Systems in place will help to prepare for such disasters and take the appropriate measures at the right time. It will also enable quick communication of the weather forecast to all levels,” said Eng. Coletha Ruhamya, Deputy Director General of REMA Thursday 18th April 2013 at the opening of a training workshop on Early Warning System testing Exercise.

Sector strategic plans reviewed to evaluate the implementation progress of the National Climate Change Strategy. |

17th -18th April 2013- Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) organized a two day workshop with planning officers and EDPRS facilitators from different ministries and institutions in order to review their respective sector strategic plans and evaluate the implementation progress of the National Climate Change Strategy at the planning level.
“ We are reviewing our sectors strategies in order to determine how far we have already gone in terms of the planning of the implementation of the National Climate Change Strategy and to find the challenges as well as better ways to overcome them” said Mr. Faustin Munyazikwiye, director of Climate Change and International Obligations Unit at REMA.
