REMA in partnership with the Lake Victoria Basin Commission through Lake Victoria Environment Management Project organized a one day workshop on 6th February at NINZI Hotel.

The main objective of the workshop was to gather appropriate information in regard to, relevant national stakeholders involved in management and monitoring of water resources and biodiversity within the Lake Victoria Basin, Possible plans for future management and monitoring and related financing and Review existing national WRIS and possible future plans for WRIS implementation in Rwanda and in the region at large.

Women are recommended to mainstream climate change into their programmes and activities so as to fight against climate change in Rwanda. PDF Imprimer E-mail

In Training sessions organized countrywide by REMA in partnership with National Women Council (NAWOCO), for the members of Districts Women Councils; women have been recommended to mainstream climate change into their programmes and daily activities.

The main objective of these trainings is to build the capacity of Districts Women Councils on climate change mainstreaming so that they can convey the climate change adaptation knowledge to other women from their respective districts.

2nd February each year is World Wetlands Day (WWD) and the theme for WWD 2013 is “Wetlands and Water Management”. So, to mark this day Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) urges all citizens who still have constructions and other illegal infrastructures in the wetlands to relocate them in order to reduce water pollution and insure that Rwanda’s water is equitably harnessed and sustainably managed to satisfy its development needs and environmental commitments enshrined in the EDPRS targets and Vision 2020 aspirations, while fulfilling our international obligations.

28thJan -1st Feb 2013 Rwanda is hosting the 2nd meeting of the Sectoral Council on environment and natural resources under the East African Community Framework. This meeting aims at considering the status of implementation of the council’s directives and decisions on various matters related to the environment as well as reviewing progress made on the implementation of sectoral activities.

In a retreat which took place on 25th January 2013, REMA staff pledged to work efficiently so as to better the status of the environment in Rwanda and serve their best to the Rwandan Community.

This statement was made during a retreat they organized so as to evaluate how far they are with their mission as a regulator institution and discuss about new approaches to use in addressing environmental issues and meeting 2013 plan.
