Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has organized a two-day workshop on the legal and regulatory framework regarding Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
The workshop which took place from 22nd to 23rd2012 brought together different stakeholders in CDM namely Government Financial institutions, Domestics Banks, Private Sector working within CDM Designated National Authorities (DNAs) and different Officials from Ministries, agencies and NGOs. The main target is to build capacity and discuss options on how to harmonize domestic laws, regulations and policies for CDM Investment and Carbon Trading in Rwanda.
The workshop was animated by 5 presenters, where 3 of them came from Rwanda Environment Management Authority namely Mr. Jean NTAZINDA; Mr. KABANANIYE Janvier and Mr. TUYISHIME yves, their presentation focused on the actual status of carbon market in Rwanda:and the Rwandan CDM project approval procedures. Other presenters came from UNEP Risoe Center, Dr. Todd NGARA, explained different contract (ERPA) that can be undertaken within carbon market negotiation. Mrs. Lanette CHITI From Zambia, explained deeply how an ideal legal and regulatory framework has to be.
